We Started Working on the Nursery

See more nursery photos.

We started working on the nursery over the weekend. Tonight, we finished painting. We have one wall of wide stripes in soft green and yellow. The opposite wall is green, and the two remaining walls are yellow. It turned out exactly as I had imagined, so I'm really pleased with it. Bill did virtually all of the painting, and he did a fabulous job! I helped with taping and edging. More pictures of the baby's room can be viewed on our Picasa album.

We also ordered nursery furniture Saturday. It should arrive within four to six weeks. I can't wait to see how it looks in there.

More Loot!

Flutterbug's Teetee Heather was visiting from California this weekend, and she brought some adorable baby stuff for the little one.

There's a three-eyed UglyDoll aptly named Tray, which is adorable and cuddly and pink! I also love the skeleton Baby Legs. So cute! There's also a very cute and very French chewy kitty named Pie and a handy dandy pacifier pod. Really great stuff!

My Doctor is Leaving Me :(

First things first, everything went well at the OB appointment today. Baby is fine. Mama is fine. Except... I found out that my beloved Dr. Rina is moving to NC in August, months before my little one is due. Man!

I really like Dr. R, so I am sad that she won't be my doctor anymore. On the other hand, however, this may be for the best when it actually comes time to have the baby. She works in a practice with six or seven other doctors, they take turns being on call to deliver babies, so the odds were that some other doctor would actually deliver Flutterbug. This also meant that all the doctors in the practice would have to agree to my birth plan, which isn't going to be conventional. I had some concerns and reservations about these issues, but I liked my doctor too much to consider finding another doctor. Now I am forced to choose a new doctor, and that means I can be really selective and find one who has a reputation of being cooperative/supportive of natural childbirth. Also, I'd love the idea of my doctor delivering my baby, but short of that, I'd like to know that all the doctors in the practice will be supportive of my birth plan.

So wish me luck finding a new doctor, and if you have any suggestions, please let me know!

Redneck Baby Names

Everyone keeps asking us if we've decided on a name for the baby yet. The answer is NOPE! We're still working on that. There are a lot of names we like, a few we love, and none that we feel certain would be perfect!

No problem. Bill found this great resource earlier today though, and I think it should be a big help!

Redneck Baby Names

A few names from the site we won't be considering:
Rebel
Sammie Jo
Brandine
Lexus
Misty Dawn
Roxxy
Dreama
Diamond
Earlene

A few names from the site that are actually on our list (WTF!):
Erin
Willa

A name NOT from the site that is appealing to me today:
Calla Sofia

24 Weeks

More 24 Weeks Photos.

Flutterbug and I are feeling great at 24 Weeks! Daddy and I have nearly made up our minds about nursery furniture. We picked out the paint colors recently, too! We also attended a hospital tour and decided that we definitely want to have FB at Methodist Germantown, where Bill's sister works as a Lactation Consultant. I'm hoping for some special treatment! :D

There's still so much left to do. I need to get a doula, a pediatrician (I have one in mind, I just need to contact his office), start childbirth classes at Methodist, as well as my Hypnobabies Home Study and/or a local Bradley class. We have to get the nursery furniture, paint, and get the nursery put together. I have to make some decisions about how to work out my maternity leave at work. We have to finish up the registry and get a guest list together for the baby shower. And, of course, we need to decide on the baby's name.

I'm getting tired just thinking about it! :D

BMs - BABY Movements

Daddy is feeling Flutterbug moving around quite a bit nowadays. In spite of the cushioning provided by my anterior placenta, I've been feeling the kiddo moving around, swimming, kicking, punching, breakdancing, pingponging and so forth in my tummy for a while now. Until this week, her Pop had only felt her once, fleetingly, at the family reunion back in May. That tiny thump was nothing compared to the repeated kicks she delivered to his hand one night earlier this week as we lay in bed playing one of CoolGram's Rockabye CDs to my tummy. It was the kind of kick that made him say "That was the baby kicking!" instead of "Was that the baby kicking?"

This morning as I was brushing my teeth, he said, "I felt the baby moving this morning." I waited for the punchline, because how could HE feel the baby if I didn't? Well, the punchline was that the baby wanted him to wake me up because I was snoring! Seriously! He had put his hand on my belly while I was still sleeping this morning, and she kicked right there. For a change, I didn't feel it, but he did. Isn't that sweet? Awww.

I've always heard about women telling their husbands to come feel the baby move, only for the babies to stop moving as soon as the dads position their hands. Flutterbug is the opposite. If she's moving around and Bill puts his hands anywhere near her, the next kick will be right under his hand. He can't always feel it, but I can. She's already a daddy's girl! And she definitely already has him wrapped around her little tiny finger.

Baby Stuff

Wow, this kid already has a lot of STUFF!

Last week, her Teetee Cheryl gave her an entire storage box full of adorable clothing (sized NB-3 months), with the promise of more to come. Wow! Are we lucky or what? I have to admit that I was overcome with a sudden & urgent desire to get a dresser! But we still don't have one, yet. Everytime we go to buy baby furniture, I get overwhelmed and we leave empty-handed.

Yesterday, I met Leslie for lunch and she had an adorable onesie for Flutterbug:

How cool is that? I love it.

Now What?

Well, we've had the 20 week ultrasound and discovered FB's gender, so what's next?
  • Nursery
  • Registry
  • Childbirth Classes
  • Birth Plan
  • Finding a Doula
  • Selecting a Name
  • Maternity Leave Arrangements

I'm sure there's more, too. I've got to get to work.
